Exo 15:20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
We at Freedom Baptist Church are a congregation that believes in returning to our biblical roots. One of the areas that we have embraced is David Worship. We believe that worship through dance is a way to more fully express our praise and worship of Him. We are told in scripture to worship Him in dance.
Psa 149:3 Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
Psa 150:4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
Just as Miriam led the women in praise and dance, we also stand before our congregation and lead with timbrels and dance in worship of the Almighty One. As the praise and worship team lead us in song we choreograph dances to the songs they sing on Sunday mornings, Saturday Torah study and Wednesday bible study. Our focus isn’t so much on performance but worship. We try to keep our choreography simple enough to where anyone with a minimal knowledge of dance can join in. We do have special performances on feast days or holidays (hannukkah etc.). We have weekly practices where we practice the dances for that weeks worship services. Our focus is coming before the LORD with the congregation to worship Him. Our dance ministry is not only for the praise and glory of the Father and His Son but to also be vessels for His Spirit to pour out and move the congregation in enhanced worship. Our goal isn’t to perform for the congregation but to help lead them in worship. Miriam is our example.
